Vista SP1 – Not So Special
March 20, 2008Microsoft is cruel, it releases a service pack on the night before I have 2 tests.
I stayed up all night.
Vista SP1 was released Tuesday (03.18.08), I was able to install it late that night. The install took a little shy of an hour, probably due to the slow network. After installing it the only real differnce i could see is 2 things;
- My system properties used to say I had 3.25 (x86 limitations) gigs of ram in the system. When I have 4 gigs physically. But now the system properties says that I have 4. Which at first made me happy because I thought for some reason my computer was able to defy the x86 limitations….yeah… not so much. In the task manager I still have 3.something available. But whatever, it looks better.
- The file transfers are SO much faster. Transferring files locally or over the network is GREATLY improved
Other than that. Eh, thats about it?
Maybe I’ll find something great later?

what happened to you “i like being lied to”?
Haha, BLACKMAMBA ftw. How the heck do you end up with a 5.3 experience index? I’ve got the Q6600 and an 8800GTS and mine is only 5.6. I think my mainboard still isn’t seeing my memory speed correctly or something since it seems to be my limiting factor.
Yep, I noticed the 4GB thing too. Even if it doesn’t get me around the x86 limitation, it still makes me feel happy that it knows it’s all there, lol. Some people have been saying SP1 has slowed transfers instead of speeding them up, I’m glad to hear you’ve experienced the opposite. I haven’t been moving a lot of files around on the home network lately but I’ll have to try it and see.
As a side note, I have to say your blog rocks and I wish I would’ve discovered it sooner. It’s inspiring me to set one back up again but I know I won’t post to it as regularly as I would like.
